Promotion

Bank of Lancaster President and Chief
Executive Officer Austin L. Roberts, III announced that Margaret H.
Brown has been promoted by the Board of Directors to the position of
Vice President.
Brown, a native of Lancaster County, is a graduate of Lancaster High
School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Economics with a
concentration in Mathematics from Mary Washington College.
Brown began her career at Bank of Lancaster in the summer of 1972 during
college and worked summers, weekends and school breaks until graduation
in 1974, at which time she joined the Bank full-time. Her first position
was in the Bookkeeping Department. In 1976, Brown established and
managed the first Data Processing Department at the Bank. She was
promoted to Assistant Operations Officer in 1979 and then promoted to
Data Processing Officer in 1983. Brown served as the Network
Administrator from 1993 through 1995 and was also named Internal Auditor
in 1993. Since that time, she has been the Internal Auditor for Bay
Banks of Virginia, Inc. and its affiliates Bank of Lancaster and Bay
Trust Company. Brown was promoted to Assistant Vice President in 1996.
Brown achieved the Basic Certificate from the American Institute of
Banking in 1979; graduated with honors from a 3-year program at the Bank
Administration School of Bank Management at the University of Wisconsin;
and achieved certification for Certified Community Bank Internal Auditor
from the Independent Community Bankers Association in 2000.
Brown is a member of the Information Systems Steering Committee. This
Committee provides information systems support for Bank of Lancaster,
Bay Trust Company and Bay Banks of Virginia. Additionally, the committee
supports company-wide compliance with associated I/S Regulatory
Requirements, such as the creation and implementation of a Vendor
Management Program, Incident Response Plan and Business Continuity Plan.
Brown also serves on the Bank’s Americans with Disabilities Task Force.
Brown was one of the initiators of the Bank’s recycling efforts. She has
also served on the Bank’s Standard’s SIT and co-chaired the Standards
Measurement SIT, two of the Bank’s Service Improvement Teams, which are
groups put in place to empower the staff and to help the company achieve
the highest possible levels of customer service.
Brown is a member of The Lighthouse Keepers, a Club formed by the
Company’s employees with 25 or more years of service. Through
mentorship, this group provides support, guidance and direction to new
employees of Bank of Lancaster and Bay Trust Company during their first
year of employment.
Active in the community, Brown is a member of the Institute of Internal
Auditors, Tidewater Chapter; has participated in fund raising events for
the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, the March of Dimes and the
Habitat for Humanity; spent several years in organizations affiliated
with the Lancaster County schools; and was a member of the United
Methodist Rappahannock District Council on Ministries. Brown is
currently a member of the White Stone Church of the Nazarene where she
volunteers with the WINGS ministry to college students; co-chair of
Missions; and a member of the Church’s Steering Committee.
Brown and her husband Steve reside in Kilmarnock. Their daughter,
Kelley, is a graduate of Virginia Tech and resides in North Carolina.
