CONSUMER SAFETY TIP
SUMMARY
To summarize, fraudulent activity cannot be
completely eliminated, but through consumer education, the risk of falling
prey to these criminals can be greatly minimized.
Keep your personal information private. Financial institutions will never
send emails requesting personal information. They will never ask you to
“verify” information in this manner. They will never ask you to click on a
special site link to do so. Do not surrender this information, whether
through emails, telephone calls, or mail responses.
Unexpected Cashier’s Checks received in the mail accompanied by a lottery or
sweepstakes letter are fraudulent. No company will send a Cashier’s Check to
a consumer for no reason at all.
If you, or someone you know, believe that you are a victim of fraudulent
activity, contact your financial institution immediately. Financial institution
employees are continually trained on security matters, and will help you with
answers to your questions.
Please talk with family, friends, and neighbors and make them aware of these
fraudulent scams. You can be the educator and a strong deterrent in the fight
against these types of crimes.
